Membership Terms

Source and status: These terms are based on Part 2 and Appendices 1 and 2 of the Constitution of the Iranian House of Music in NSW, Australia (2026 version). If this summary differs from the Constitution, the Constitution prevails.

Eligibility and membership classes

Membership is available to a natural person who supports IHOM’s mission and vision and applies under clause 2.3. General membership is the default class. Premium membership is for musicians, composers, singers, music teachers and tutors and requires the applicant’s music expertise and portfolio or professional resume. Honorary membership may only be granted by the Board of Directors and has no voting rights.

General and Premium members may attend and vote at general meetings, hold office, receive association papers and participate in IHOM activities. Premium members may also nominate for Committee moderator and apply to the Professional Council of Music.

Application and admission

An online application is lodged with the Secretary, who refers it to the Board of Directors as soon as practicable. The Secretary notifies the applicant by writing or email when the Board approves or rejects the application. If approved, the applicant may be asked to pay the membership fee within 28 days. The applicant becomes a member only after any required payment is received and their name is entered in the register of members.

Member declaration and conditions

By checking the declaration in the application form, the applicant confirms that they have read and understood these terms, agrees to be bound by the Constitution in force, and agrees that they:

1. Will respect fellow members regardless of ethnic background, religious or political affiliation, or professional musical preference.
2. Will not offend, humiliate, harass or attack others and will respect each person’s right to hold and express an opinion. Obscenities and indecent language are not permitted in public expressions.
3. Will not use IHOM social media to publish material that is knowingly false, defamatory, abusive, hateful, harassing, threatening, derogatory, invasive of privacy or otherwise unlawful.
4. Remain responsible for their posts. The Board of Directors may delete or move posts on IHOM social media.
5. Will not publish copyrighted material without ownership or permission, breach a non-disclosure agreement, or distribute or intentionally link to illegally obtained material.
6. Will obtain consent before publishing anything that relates to, involves or affects another person and accept responsibility for adverse consequences including harassment or defamation.
7. Understand that personal information they choose to publish may be visible to others, while IHOM will not disclose personal information to third parties without consent except where permitted or required.
8. Will not advertise non-music products or services for personal financial benefit without permission from the Board of Directors.
9. Will not offer pirated software or link to websites offering pirated software.
10. Will not publish pornographic or sexually offensive material, unsuitable images, or links to such material.
11. Will not publish illegal content or instructions for performing illegal acts.
12. Will not impersonate IHOM members, office bearers, Professional Council of Music members or Committee Moderators.
13. Accept that an alleged violation may be reviewed by the Board of Directors, which may issue penalties ranging from warnings to a membership ban.
14. Understand that violations may result in up to two warning notices and that disregarding previous warnings may lead to revocation of membership. Notices and penalties may be sent by private or public message, and members are responsible for checking their inbox.

Fees, renewal, resignation and cessation

The Board of Directors determines the membership fee. Membership renews annually without a renewal fee unless it ceases under the Constitution. A member may resign by giving the Secretary at least one month’s written or email notice. Membership also ceases on death or expulsion for non-compliance. Membership fees are not refundable when membership ceases.

Disputes, discipline and appeal

Membership disputes are referred to a community justice centre for mediation and, if unresolved within three months, to arbitration. Before disciplining a member, the Board must give notice of the complaint and at least 14 days for submissions. A suspension or expulsion must be notified with reasons and appeal rights. A member may appeal within seven days, with the appeal decided by members at a general meeting.

Member register and privacy

The Secretary keeps the register of members in New South Wales. The Constitution permits members to inspect full names and obtain copies subject to its conditions, restricts how register information may be used, and allows a member to request that information about them not be available to the public.
